STATEMENT ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, & ACCESSIBILITY

NYSABA values diversity, equity and inclusion and recognizes that through the inclusion of all behavior analysts in our state, we are better able to serve the needs of our diverse communities. We remain committed to furthering our understanding of the role that both systemic and systematic inequities play in the ethical practice of behavior analysis and we hope to be a resource to all behavior analysts practicing in our state.  In July 2020, the NYSABA Board unanimously voted to create a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee to guide and support NYSABA in becoming a more inclusive organization which fights for social justice for all behavior analysts, our clients, and their families. NYSABA’s DEIA is committed to the following:

  1. Becoming an inclusive, equitable, and diverse organization where members of every identity, including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, education, neurotype, and ability or disability, feel valued and respected.

  2. Increasing diversity in behavior analysts and individuals pursuing careers in behavior analysis in New York.

  3. Working to remove barriers to accessing behavior analytic education, supervision, research, and services, and research and supervision or behavior analytic services that stem from systemic racism and other oppressive policies and practices.

    1. This includes the internal exploration, acknowledgement and dismantling of any inequities within our own policies, practices, and systems.

  4. Creating and providing opportunities for historically marginalized and historically underrepresented populations to learn about behavior analysis, access education and supervision in behavior analysis, and access behavior analytic resources.

  5. Providing education and training for behavior analysts on how culture, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and other aspects of identity can impact:

    1.  the work with clients (provision of ABA services),

    2. feelings of belonging at work, school, or the community

    3. access to effective education and supervision in ABA

    4.  effective supervision of aspiring behavior analysts.

NYSABA’s DEIA committee recognizes that our members are a critical component in shaping our mission and vision such that we are engaging in sustainable change toward increasing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in our field.
