NYSABA Student/BT Committee Presents: Getting the Most Out of Mentorship: A Guide for BCBA Trainees
Presenter: Amanda Adams, PhD, BCBA-D, NYSLBA
Date/Time: 6/17 at 8 pm EST
Type: RBT PDU
Cost: Member: $10.00 / Non-Member: $20.00
Abstract: Supervision is more than a requirement—it’s an opportunity to build meaningful mentorship that shapes your growth as a behavior analyst. In this session, we’ll explore how to approach supervision as a collaborative mentorship process rather than a checklist to complete. Attendees will learn practical strategies for taking ownership of their learning, building strong supervisory relationships, asking impactful questions, and turning feedback into professional growth. We’ll also discuss what effective mentorship looks like from both the trainee and supervisor perspectives, and how to maximize each supervision hour to support skill development, confidence, and career readiness. Whether you’re just beginning your fieldwork or looking to deepen your experience, this session will help you make supervision a powerful and transformative part of your journey.
Objectives:
  1. Participants will learn to identify skills and practical strategies for building stronger supervisory relationships, including rapport-building strategies.
  2. Participants will learn how to ask impactful questions during supervision and identify strategies for implementing supervisory feedback into their professional skill development.
  3. Participants will learn to identify and discuss four observable behaviors that characterize effective mentorship from the trainee perspective and four observable behaviors from the supervisor perspective that maximize each supervision hour for skill development, confidence, and career readiness.
