NYSABA ABA Ambassador Award 2020

Purpose and Summary

The New York State Association for Behavior Analysis (NYSABA) ABA Student Ambassador Award recognizes future behavior analysts, or students, who help to disseminate the usefulness and versatility of behavior analysis in various settings. Applicants will send their applications with an essay to describe their ideas for: 1) how to recruit more student members; and 2) how to disseminate the current legislative issue with the State’s scope restriction. Each of the 2-4 award recipients will be given the title ABA Ambassador, serve as a member of NYSABA’s Student Activities Committee, and help with student member recruitment and legislation-related tasks from January to September 2020.  


Student members of NYSABA are eligible to apply. They must be enrolled in a college/university in New York State OR a resident of New York State who attends a college/university outside of New York State during the 2019/2020 academic year.

How to Apply

  • Write a one-page essay to answer the following two questions: 1) How would you recruit your friends, classmates, and colleagues to become NYSABA’s student members?; 2) What is a creative way to disseminate the importance of eliminating New York State’s scope restriction? (approximately 400-500 words, 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman, single-spaced, flush left). The name of the applicant should be included as a header.

  • Fill out the application form and email it with an essay electronically to NYSABAambassador@gmail.com by December 23, 2019, with the subject line “Application.”

  • Applications that do not meet the above guidelines will be eliminated from the review process.



Selection of Awardees

NYSABA board will review applications and select awardees, and send decision notifications to all applicants by early January, 2020.

Responsibility and Compensation

Each awardee will:

  • serve as a NYSABA Student ABA Ambassador during the period of January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020; 

  • become a member of NYSABA’s Student Activities Committee during the abovementioned period and work with the Committee Chair and the other committee members, especially on the tasks related to student member recruitment and legislative efforts;

  • attend at least one NYSABA meet-up or organize a meet-up in coordination with the Membership Committee;

  • in September 2020, create a report (in any format, such as essay, video, infographics, etc.) that describes her/his experience as an Ambassador and submit it by September 30, 2020 (all reports will be posted on the NYSABA website, social media pages, and other relevant venues); and

  • after submitting the report to NYSABA, receive a $200 award/compensation.
